Israel Brings Down Drone Near the Gaza Border

isThe Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) shot down a Gazan drone that had infiltrated the border early on Monday morning.

According to an official statement by the IDF “the drone was shot down by IDF soldiers and it has been sent for investigation.” It remains to be seen whether this was a surveillance operation or posed a threat to the state.

This comes after weeks of relative stability in the region following violence earlier in the year. In June Hamas agreed to put an end to border violence and arson attacks in return for a favourable deal with Israel. However, just days later approximately 7,000 protestors descended on the border, including three arrested for illegally crossing the border armed with a grenade. In addition, soldiers were attacked with rocks and fires were lit along the frontier.
