Prime Minister Boris Johnson shared a positive phone call on Saturday with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu, where they discussed the strength of the UK-Israel partnership and opportunities to build on ties post-Brexit.

A Downing Street statement said that the two leaders agreed to look for new ways to build on the partnership when the UK leaves the EU, “including by stepping up our trading ties”.

It added that the leaders discussed Iran: “They discussed the need to continue working together to counter Iran’s destabilising activity in the region, to defend freedom of navigation, and to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon”.

The leaders ended the discussion on cordial terms and with the intention of meeting in person at the earliest opportunity.
