More than 200,000 people celebrated Gay Pride in Tel Aviv last Friday – by far the biggest parade in the region.
Hundreds of police officers and volunteers were in attendance to help secure the march, cars were banned from parking along the route, and traffic was redirected.
The theme for this year’s parade was “Women for a Change”, and last year the theme honoured transgender people.
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT), rights in Israel are the most advanced in the region, and Tel Aviv has become well known for its annual Pride Parade, earning the nickname “the gay capital of the Middle East”.
