On Tuesday, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) released a statement expressing that the UK and a number of European partners “jointly raised with Iran our deep concerns about hostile activities and plots being planned and perpetrated in Europe”.
The statement underlined: “Such actions are unacceptable and must have consequences”.
It comes as the Dutch government yesterday accused Iran of hiring criminals and gangs to murder two Iranian dissidents in the Netherlands, as the EU imposed sanctions on Tehran for a widespread campaign of assassination plots across Europe.
The FCO statement added: “We informed the Iranian authorities that those responsible for the June 2018 bomb plot planned in France are being included on the EU list of persons, groups and entities involved in terrorist acts and will be subject to restrictive measures”.
In July 2018, an Iran diplomat was arrested along with two others suspected of plotting a bomb attack on a meeting of an exiled Iranian opposition group in France, attended by US President Donald Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani.
The statement further said: “We also condemned other illegal activities, including the recent thwarted assassination plot in Denmark and two assassinations in the Netherlands”.
The FCO statement concluded that as long as Iran continues to implement the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on its nuclear programme in full, the UK will remain committed to it.
