Conservative MPs raised concerns about Iran’s human rights abuses and financial support of terror in the region and around the world, in the House of Commons this week.
Speaking in support of a Statutory Instrument to carry over the Iran sanctions regime once Britain leaves the EU, CFI Vice-Chairman Rt. Hon. Theresa Villiers MP said that Iran’s “malign involvement in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Yemen and Gaza is a cause for the gravest concern”.
She added that Iran’s regime has engaged in a “massive arms build-up in Syria and Lebanon, where it is stockpiling thousands of missiles”, with Hezbollah’s arsenal of rockets supplied by Iran estimated at 150,000 and more than 10,000 Iran-linked militia fighters in Syria.
Mark Pritchard MP emphasised that “Iran needs to stop exporting terror to European capitals, and praised the UK, U.S., Israeli, and EU security services for their work in foiling Iran-linked plots.
