A rocket was launched by terrorists in Gaza towards Israel on Thursday night, it was confirmed by Israel’s military.
The rocket is reported to have landed in an open field, with no reports of injuries or damage.
Israel’s Iron Dome missile defence system was activated and an interceptor projectile was launched, the army said in a statement.
The IDF said a tank and fighter jets subsequently launched retaliatory strikes on two posts in the northern Strip belonging to the Hamas terror group. As rulers of the Gaza Strip, Israel considers Hamas responsible for any terror activity emanating from the territory.
There have been over 770 rockets fired at Israel by Gaza-based terror groups so far in 2019.
