The Combat Anti-Semitism Movement (CAM) on Wednesday announced that CFI Parliamentary Chairman (Lords) and UK Special Envoy for Post-Holocaust issues, Rt. Hon. The Lord Pickles, has joined its Advisory Board.
Lord Pickles joins advisors in helping the organisation spearhead the fight against antisemitism globally. CAM is a non-partisan, global grassroots movement of individuals and organisations, across all religions and faiths, united around the goal of ending antisemitism in all its forms.
Lord Pickles said in a statement: “The fight against the disease of antisemitism has long been central to my work. Especially during these turbulent times, the level of hatred being directed towards Jews is especially disturbing. The work that the Combat Anti-Semitism Movement is doing to bring grassroots activists and organisations together, is critical in order to build a strong, powerful and united front against antisemitism. I am proud to join the outstanding names on the Advisory Board to help in this effort”.
Since its launching in February 2019, 260 organisations and 270,000 individuals have joined the CAM by signing the campaign’s pledge. The CAM Pledge draws upon the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) international definition of antisemitism and its list of specific behaviours used to discriminate against the Jewish people and the State of Israel.
Lord Pickles was instrumental in the drafting of the IHRA definition of antisemitism, which Prime Minister Theresa May announced the UK would be adopting at CFI’s Annual Business Lunch in December 2016. The IHRA definition is now used by UK police, councils, universities, and schools, and is recognised by over 30 countries.
