Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium is more than 10 times above the limit set under the 2015 nuclear agreement, the UN watchdog the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said today.
The IAEA said that Iran’s hold of enriched uranium grew 34% over the past quarter and currently stands at 2,105 kilograms.
The Iran nuclear deal, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), set the threshold at 300 kilograms – but the limit was centred on a specific compound form, which is the equivalent of 202.8 kg of uranium.
The announcement was made as IAEA’s new chief Rafael Mariano Grossi visited the country for talks on the nuclear question.
