The UK and Israel have signed a joint agreement to deepen military cooperation in a range of areas, in a move welcomed by diplomats and senior officials.
Signed last Tuesday, much of the detail of the agreement remains classified, but it is thought to cover areas of warfare such as maritime, land, air, space, and cyber and electromagnetic.
The UK’s Ambassador to Israel, H.E. Neil Wigan said he was “delighted” to announce that Britain’s Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Sir Nicholas Carter and the IDF’s Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Aviv Kochavi had agreed “to further deepen our military cooperation”.
The UK and Israel have a strong existing partnership in cyber security and the British Army already deploys Israeli drones over theatres of war.
In October, it was reported that the British military had been given access to Israel’s Rhino mobile headquarters, designed by Israel’s Elbit Systems, which uses advanced digital technology to connect commanders and units in the field.
In September 2019, the RAF (Royal Air Force) and IAF (Israeli Air Force) took part in their first ever joint exercise in Britain.
