In a Westminster Hall debate on Wednesday, 11 Conservative MPs urged for the UK to introduce a tougher policy on Iran, including calling for proscription of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
In October, over 80 Conservative MPs and Lords wrote to Prime Minister Boris Johnson raising concerns over the UK’s Iran policy, in a letter coordinated by CFI.
Leading the debate, CFI Vice-Chairman John Howell OBE MPs said that despite Iran’s “many breaches” of 2015 JCPOA Nuclear Deal, it has faced “no tangible consequences”.
He condemned Iran’s support for terror, called for proscription of the IRGC and urged UK to adopt “clear-sighted” approach.
CFI Parliamentary Chairman Rt. Hon. Stephen Crabb MP underlined that UK policy on Iran risks appearing “confused” and “unclear”, adding that the regime is a “direct threat to global peace and a threat to our own interests and those of our closest allies”.
Among MPs to contribute with speeches included: Christian Wakeford MP, David Amess MP, Robert Largan MP, Antony Higginbotham MP, Imran Ahmad Khan MP, Chris Clarkson MP, Brendan Clarke-Smith MP.
