Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett warned that Iran’s nuclear programme is at a “watershed moment” on Monday in his inaugural speech to the UN General Assembly. PM Bennett sharply rebuked Iran, arguing the country supports regional proxies and has aspirations for nuclear weapons.
He said: “Iran is violating the IAEAs safeguard agreements – and it’s getting away with it. They harass inspectors and sabotage their investigations – and they’re getting away with it. They enrich Uranium to the level of 60%, which is one step short of weapons-grade material – and they’re getting away with it”. Iran’s ambassador to the UN denounced the statement, calling it “full of lies”.
In his speech, PM Bennett also praised Israel’s new unity government and emphasised the important role debate plays in the diverse administration. He also took advocated for Israel’s third booster shot approach, encouraging other nations to follow. Read the full speech here.
