In Foreign, Commonwealth and Development questions on Tuesday, Conservative MP Paul Holmes noted that this month marks six years since the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPoA) was signed, yet “Iran has faced no consequences for its flagrant violations of the deal”.
He asked the Foreign Secretary: “Does my Right Honourable Friend share my concern that Iran has failed to live up to its nuclear commitments, and will he confirm that nothing is off the table, including the reimposition of sanctions?”
Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said that Mr Holmes was “absolutely right to point to the continued systemic non-compliance by Iran with its JCPOA commitments”. “We strongly urge Iran to halt all its activities in violation of the JCPOA and, in line with the new US position, come back to the table and make sure that we can conclude a return to the JCPOA”, he added.
The Foreign Secretary concluded: “We do not believe that those negotiations can remain open-ended forever”. In a speech to the International Committee in Search of Justice (ISJ) #FreeIran2021 World Summit on Monday, former Defence Secretary, Rt. Hon. Liam Fox MP, condemned Iran’s regional aggression and support for the Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad terror groups.
He said the JCPOA was “fundamentally flawed”, adding that an agreement “may be possible, but it must take into account Iran’s human rights abuses, its export of terror, its explicit threat to the security of Israel, and its attempts to destabilise its regional neighbours”. Mr Fox was appointed Chair of the UK Abraham Accords Group by the ambassadors of Israel, the UAE and Bahrain last week.
