On Friday morning sirens could be heard across the north of Israel after an unmanned aircraft entered the country from Lebanon. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) scrambled fighter jets to attempt to down the drone and interceptor missiles were fired from the Iron Dome, however, Israeli media reported that it managed to escape back to Lebanon.
This breach came two days after Hezbollah’s leader Hassan Nasrallah has today issued a new threat to Israel, proclaiming that the Iran-backed terror group is now producing drones that “possess the ability to transform our thousands of rockets into precision-guided missiles”.
In a speech recorded by the Lebanese news site Naharnet, Nasrallah warned Israel that if they carried out an operation to search for Hezbollah’s missiles they “might face an Ansariyeh response” – referring to the 1997 ambush where 12 Israeli soldiers were killed in South Lebanon by Islamic Resistance guerrillas.
During the speech, he made a number of references to the “resistance” who are “protecting” Lebanon from the “enemy” as well as the “demise” of Israeli military power.
This warning by Nasrallah comes hours after several propaganda videos were released onto Social Media by Hezbollah in which the Iran-backed terrorist organisation demonstrated their alpine warfare skills by shooting at targets with the Star of David drawn on.
As well as shooting at targets referencing Israel, the video says the practice occurred near Lebanon’s southern border with Israel. Wearing all-white snow camouflage gear, members of the group are seen using skis and snowmobiles, and practising hand-to-hand combat in the snow.
