International Trade Minister Mike Freer stated that “Israel is one of our strongest allies and one of our largest partners in global trade” during International Trade Oral Questions in the House of Commons this week.
His remarks came in response to a question from Conservative MP Scott Benton asking for an update on the plans for Israel-UK Innovation Summit and the free trade agreement between the two countries.
The Minister added that the UK is “working closely with our Israeli counterparts to deliver a successful summit over the next few weeks”.
Trade between the UK and Israel has grown exponentially in recent years setting records and reached an estimated £5 billion in 2020. An eight-week consultation to seek the views of business and the public, ahead of negotiations on a bilateral free trade agreement, is ongoing.
