Gaza rocket1Tensions between factions have continued to rise in Gaza, as ISIS affiliated terrorists in the neighborhood of Beit Lahiya attempted to fired a rocket into Israel on Tuesday morning.

Although the rocket remained in the strip, Israel’s rocket alarm system sounded in Ashkelon and surrounding areas.

The militants were from the ISIS-affiliated Sinai Province terror group, also known as Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis.

The rocket was fired on the first day of the Israeli school year, yet schools have remained open as over two million children started lessons again for the new academic year.

Yair Farjoun, head of the Hof Ashkelon Region has requested increased rocket protection for schools in the region from the Ministry of Defence.

This attack follows another rocket launch last week from the Gaza strip. No group took responsibility for the attack, but Israel holds Hamas, as de facto rulers of Gaza, responsible for all activity emanating from the Strip.

Salafi Jihadist groups have claimed responsibility for most of the sporadic rocket strikes on Israel from the coastal territory since the end of the 50-day Gaza conflict Operation Protective Edge last year.
