Fatah’s official Facebook page on Friday listed a number of its achievements, ahead of upcoming municipal elections in October. At the top of the post was the boast that the faction “has killed 11,000 Israelis”.
The post also notes other ‘achievements’, including the sacrifice of “170,000 Martyrs”, and being the first group to carry out attacks in the First and Second Infadas.
It also takes credit for leading the Palestinian campaign against Israel in the UN.
The post reads:
“Fatah has killed 11,000 Israelis
Fatah has sacrificed 170,000 Martyrs (Shahids)…
Fatah was the first to carry out operations (i.e., terror attacks) during the first Intifada (i.e., Palestinian violence and terror against Israel, 1988-1993), and it was the first Palestinian faction to reach the nuclear reactor in Dimona (i.e., 1988 murder of 3 working mothers on way to the Dimona plant)
Fatah was the first to fight in the second Intifada (i.e., PA terror campaign 2000-2005) (Baha Al-Sa’id, an officer in the Preventive Security Forces, infiltrated an Israeli settlement on the border with Gaza) [parenthesis in source]…
Fatah was the first to defeat the Zionist enemy (Battle of El-Karameh) [parenthesis in source]…
Fatah led the Palestinian attack on Israel in the UN”.
The post comes ahead of upcoming Palestinian municipal elections, set for 8th October, in which Fatah and Hamas are expected to contest seats in most Palestinian municipalities. In many places in the West Bank, Hamas members will be running without openly identifying with the movement, which has been suppressed by PA forces in areas under its control.
According to Palestinian Media Watch, a similar message appeared on Fatah’s Facebook page in 2014.
