In an interview with i24NEWS in Israel this week, CFI Parliamentary Chairman (Lords) Rt. Hon. The Lord Pickles and CFI Honorary President Lord Polak CBE discussed the upcoming general election and raised concerns about antisemitism in the Labour Party.
Lord Polak said that antisemitism is now “endemic” in the Labour Party: “We’ve already seen quite a number of candidates removed from the Labour Party for antisemitic comments and others. It’s endemic in the party; Corbyn’s allowed it to fester and it is a great concern for the Jewish community, certainly”.
He added that antisemitism is anti-British: “Antisemitism is of course a problem for the Jewish community, but actually it’s a stain that it’s allowed to carry on like this. It’s a problem for British society, it’s so anti what British society is about – that’s why I’m pretty hopeful that he’ll [Jeremy Cobyn] will be rejected”.
Lord Pickles said that Britain will be a “lesser place” if Jews decide to leave due to antisemitism: “I’m not Jewish and I think what’s happening to the Jewish community threatens me, because if Jews were to decide to leave this country, to leave the United Kingdom, they’re a fundamental part of British identity and our country would be the lesser place for it”.
