CFI sends our congratulations to the King and Queen Consort ahead of Their Majesties’ Coronation tomorrow. We wish King Charles III, Queen Camilla and the Royal Family continued success, good health and prosperity.
Israel’s President, Isaac Herzog, will represent Israel at the coronation ceremony with his wife Michal. He said: “On behalf of the people of Israel, we congratulate the King and Queen and the entire British nation on this momentous occasion and relay our warmest wishes for many years of blessing, success, and bold friendship with the State of Israel”. The President added: “Michal and I are proud to be representing Israel at the coronation ceremony for King Charles III in London, alongside world leaders from across the globe and local Jewish community representatives”.
Chief Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis will also be in attendance at the Coronation, residing overnight in St James’ Palace in order to attend the ceremony during the Jewish Sabbath.
His Majesty King Charles III conducted his first official visit to Israel in 2020, after previously visiting the country for the funerals of Yitzhak Rabin and Shimon Peres. The King is the most senior member of the Royal Family to visit Israel since its establishment, following His Royal Highness Prince William’s first-ever official royal visit in 2018.
In November 2021, Israeli President Isaac Herzog met King Charles on an official visit to the UK. During the visit, President Herzog announced a nursing scholarship at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem dedicated to King Charles’ grandmother, Princess Alice of Battenberg.
Princess Alice is recognised by Yad Vashem as a Righteous Among the Nations for saving a Jewish family in Greece during the Holocaust; she is buried at the Church of Mary Magdalene on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem.
