CFI Vice-Chairman, John Howell OBE MP, condemned the Hamas terror organisation’s use of schools as human shields, speaking in the Council of Europe today.
During a session discussing the integration of migrant children through compulsory education, Mr Howell highlighted Hamas’s “placing of military equipment in schools in Gaza”.
He underlined: “This use of schools as human shields must be deplored”, adding “it destroys the status of schools as a place to keep children safe and a safe haven, and we should not be prepared to accept that”.
During the 2014 Operation Protective Edge conflict in Gaza, stockpiles of rockets were found in multiple school buildings that were controlled by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).
Last August, UNRWA sealed a Hamas tunnel it uncovered that the terrorist group had built under two of the UN agency’s boys schools in the Maghazi refugee camp in Gaza.
