Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick joined HRH The Prince of Wales in Israel this week, where he marked the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz and visited the Western Wall in Jerusalem.
The Communities Secretary became the second British Secretary of State to visit Jerusalem’s Western Wall within a space of a year, following then-Home Secretary Sajid Javid’s visit in July 2019.
Mr Javid’s visit in July was the first by a British Government Minister in almost 20 years.
At CFI’s Parliamentary Reception in Manchester in October 2019, Mr Javid reflected: “It shouldn’t have taken two decades, but I know that many more Conservative Cabinet Ministers will follow on from that”.
The Communities Secretary said that it was “an honour to join HRH the Prince of Wales ” at the “tremendously powerful” ceremony in Jerusalem.
At Yad Vashem, Mr Jenrick said that he “met the curatorial team supporting our new Holocaust Memorial and Learning Centre, to be built beside the Palace of Westminster”.
He added: “Their experience, wisdom and research will help to make ours a fitting tribute to the Holocaust”.
