A number of Conservative MPs condemned Iran’s regional aggression, raised concerns over the terms of a renewed nuclear deal with Iran, and discussed the possibility of moving the British Embassy to Jerusalem, during Foreign Office Questions last week.

In a question about the renewed JCPOA talks in Vienna, CFI Parliamentary Chairman (Commons), Rt. Hon. Stephen Crabb MP said “we must not repeat the mistakes of the past” when signing a new nuclear deal with Iran, and that any renewed agreement “should be accompanied by very strong measures to discourage it from being the world’s largest sponsor of terrorism”. He added, that we should not see Iran’s sponsorship of terror proxies as merely being “a non-strategic irritant”.

The Middle East Minister responded that the government does have “real concerns about the instability Iran causes in the region” but that a final draft for the nuclear deal is now on the table and Iran “should take it urgently”.

Rt. Hon. Robert Halfan MP called on the Government to “introduce sanctions against Iran and take up other punitive measures”, due to it “stepping up” its terrorist and nuclear activities.

Michael Fabricant MP asked whether it was time for the UK to follow our allies in the United States and “move the British embassy from Tel Aviv to the capital of Israel, where its parliament is, Jerusalem”. The Minister responded that she was aware of “a possibility of a review” to move the embassy but that she “will not speculate further on this point”.
