Douglas Ross has today been announced as the new leader of the Scottish Conservatives.
The Member of Parliament for Moray won the leadership after nominations closed at noon today with no other candidate putting themselves forward.
Ross, a longstanding friend of Israel, described it as “the honour of a lifetime” and vowed to “move the country forward”.
Ruth Davidson will stand in at First Minister’s Questions until next year’s Scottish Parliament election, at which Ross will look to win a seat in Holyrood.
Mr Ross previously served as a Member of the Scottish Parliament for the Highland and Islands region, during which time he visited Israel with CFI as part of a Scottish Conservatives delegation, before his election to Westminster in 2017.
Mr Ross has supported Israel on several occasions in the House of Commons, including raising concerns over the Malaysian Prime Minister’s 2019 decision to ban Israelis from participating in the World Para Swimming Championships.
Ross succeeds Jackson Carlaw who stood down as party leader last week.
CFI looks forward to working with Douglas and the Scottish Conservatives under his leadership.
