Foreign Secretary Rt. Hon. Liz Truss MP underlined that that “all options are on the table” to prevent Iran from gaining a nuclear weapon in the House of Commons this week.
Foreign Secretary Truss was responding to a question from Gary Sambrook MP, who urged the Government to “seek a resolution of censure at the next International Atomic Energy Agency board of governors session, so we can ensure that we hold Iran to account”.
Mr Sambrook said: “I am sure my right hon. Friend shares my grave concern at Iran’s escalation of uranium enrichment to 60% and production of uranium metal, which has no credible civilian purpose”.
The Foreign Secretary responded emphatically, stating: “Iran has no credible civilian justification for its nuclear escalation. As I made clear to my Iranian counterpart, Iran urgently needs to return to the negotiating table and, if it does not engage meaningfully in negotiations, we will reconsider our approach. All options are on the table”.
A number of other Conservatives also raised concerns on Iran, including Philip Hollobone MP and Greg Smith MP. Mr Smith emphasised that “having a nuclear weapon would give Iran the ultimate protection to spread its malign influence in the region”, adding, “Iran remains the world’s leading sponsor of terror groups, including those committed to the destruction of Israel”.
Last week, eight Conservative MPs raised concerns about Iran’s escalating nuclear violations during a Westminster Hall debate secured by CFI Parliamentary Chairman (Commons), Rt. Hon. Stephen Crabb MP.
