Geoffrey Van Orden MBE MEP led members of the Bureau of the Conservatives & Reformists Group in the European Parliament on a four-day visit to Israel this week, where they met Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other senior politicians in Israel’s parliament, the Knesset.
The group visited the Syria and Lebanon border areas where they saw Israeli hospitals treating Syrian casualties.
They paid their respects at Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial in Jerusalem, where Mr Van Orden laid a wreath on behalf of the ECR in memory of the victims of the Holocaust.
In September 2016, Israel’s Likud Party, headed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, was welcomed as a regional member of the third largest political bloc in the European Parliament, the Alliance of Conservatives and Reformists in Europe (ACRE).
The ACRE is a conservative and eurosceptic European political bloc with member parties from all European Union member states, including the Conservative Party.
