In International Trade Questions in the House of Commons this week, Minister Rt. Hon. Conor Burns MP revealed that the Government plans to host a UK-Israel trade and investment conference in London.
Craig Tracey MP had asked the International Trade Minister what steps the Government will take “to further strengthen and enhance our trade relationship with Israel and go beyond the terms of the continuity agreement that’s already in place”.
Mr Tracey had highlighted the fact that “Israeli exports to the UK grew by 286% over the last decade, and bilateral trade levels are at a record high”.
The Minister said in his response: “We strongly value our trading relationship with the State of Israel and are working closely with the Israeli government to implement the UK-Israel trade and partnership agreement”.
He added that there are “opportunities for us to do so much more”, and said “my own constituency, the town of Bournemouth, is in fact twinned with Netanya in Israel and I’ve seen first-hand the opportunities in the innovation and tech sectors”.
Mr Burns revealed: “We are working with the Israeli counterparts to host a UK-Israel trade and investment conference in London, which will have its primary focus on scoping out and identifying new opportunities and collaboration between Israel and the United Kingdom”.
The Minister had visited Israel with CFI in 2016, where the delegation saw the Elevator Fund, a start-up fund located in the heart of Tel Aviv’s thriving business hub, and the Israel-UK Chamber of Commerce, to learn about the flourishing ties and bilateral trade between the two countries.
