Home Secretary Priti Patel has pledged to stand up to antisemitism, after a meeting with Jewish community leaders this week, where they discussed countering antisemitism and extremism and protecting Jewish interests within the context of Brexit.
Home Secretary Patel met senior representatives of the Board of Deputies, Jewish Leadership Council and Community Security Trust on Tuesday.
She said: “I was delighted to meet with the Board of Deputies of British Jews today. I look forward to working with them to stand up to the threat of antisemitism, and ensure the security and safety of Jewish communities”.
In a joint statement, Jewish leaders said: “We very much look forward to working with her on our shared objectives of making the UK safer and more secure for Jews and every part of our society, particularly in the context of rising antisemitism and the uncertainties posed by Brexit.
The statement added: “We were very pleased to hear of the Home Secretary’s strong commitment to tackling antisemitism and extremism and her willingness to work with us to eliminate the potential challenges posed by Brexit”.
