International Trade Secretary Liz Truss this week in the House of Commons hailed the “huge opportunity” for British and Israeli businesses to collaborate.
The International Trade Secretary underlined in response to a question from Conservative MP Chris Green: “We are two tech superpowers and there’s huge opportunity for British businesses and Israeli businesses to work more closely together”.
She added: “We have already signed a continuity free trade agreement with Israel, and we want to go further in a new free trade agreement in areas such as tech, digital and data”.
Chris Green MP had highlighted Israeli innovation in creating “an instant Covid-19 test that is currently being trialled at European airports”. He asked the International Trade Secretary what steps she is taking “to work with innovative Israeli companies in this area?”
Conservative MP Alexander Stafford celebrated the UK’s “strong and very positive relationships” with Israel and the Gulf states. He asked the Minister “what further plans we have for striking deals with these countries, as this will not only be good for UK exports but for our international relations as well?”
Trade Minister Ranil Jayawardena said he is “delighted” that the UK-Israel trade continuity agreement was one of the first signed.
In response to a question from CFI Vice-Chair John Howell OBE MP, the Mr Jayawardena described the “exciting opportunities” being explored for UK-Israel trade beyond the post-Brexit continuity agreement.
