Yesterday, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei released a video in which he remarked, regarding the Holocaust: “It is not clear whether the core of this matter is a reality or not. Even if it is a reality, it is not clear how it happened”.
In the video, which shows deeply upsetting images of wounded and dead children, Iran’s Supreme Leader said that America “assists the fake Zionist regime” and that when “they say in their slogans that they are opposed to terrorism and ISIS they are lying”.
Referring to Holocaust deniers in European countries, Khamenei said: “If someone does this they stop, arrest, imprison, and sue him. This is while they claim to be supporters of freedom. This is the ignorance that exists in today’s world. We should be awake. [Muslims] should know that we can stand up against the ignorance”.
The video was published on Holocaust Memorial Day, where memorial services took place worldwide in remembrance of the six million Jews who perished at the hands of the Nazis as well as those murdered in other genocides.
In Britain yesterday, Prime Minister David Cameron said that “it is right our whole country should stand together to remember the darkest hour of humanity”.
He announced in Prime Minister’s Questions that a new Holocaust memorial will be built in Victoria Tower Gardens, next to the Houses of Parliament.
