United Arab Emirates Air Force Commander Maj. Gen. Al Alawi was welcomed to Israel this week by Israel Air Force Commander Maj. Gen. Amikam Norkin, in a landmark first visit to observe the military’s massive biennial Blue Flag exercise.
The IDF said on Twitter: “Together, the commanders made a significant step toward future cooperation and strengthened military ties”.
The Blue Flag is an international aerial drill being held this month over the Negev desert, in what the IDF say is the largest and most advanced aerial exercise ever hosted by Israel.
It is the first deployment of a British fighter squadron in Israel since the establishment of the Jewish State. Teams from the United States, Germany, Italy, France, Greece and India have also participated at the exercise this year.
