Following US President Donald Trump’s formal recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, a number of rockets were launched from Gaza at Israel from terror groups in the territory.
Israel’s Iron Dome missile defence system intercepted a rocket fired from Gaza this evening over the southern Israeli town of Sderot, and a second rocket attack was identified shortly after but it is not currently known where the rocket has landed.
Yesterday, a rocket hit southern Israel from Gaza and two other rockets were launched. The Israel Defense Forces retaliated to the rocket attacks by carrying out targeted strikes on two Hamas positions in Gaza in the evening.
Although salafist group Tawhid al-Jihad took responsibility for the attacks, the Israel holds Hamas responsible for any activity emanating out of Gaza, as de facto rulers of the territory.
Last week, the Gaza-based Islamic Jihad terror group launched a dozen mortar shells at an army post northeast of the Strip, causing no injuries but some damage to army equipment. Israel’s military retaliated with six strikes on terrorist positions in Gaza, four of them belonging to the Islamic Jihad and two to Hamas.
