An Israeli teenager was hurt yesterday when a Palestinian man stabbed him with a screwdriver in East Jerusalem, inflicting several wounds across the boy’s upper body.
The victim was an 18 year old Yeshiva student who was on his way to the Mount of Olives cemetery. Israeli police have labelled the incident as a suspected terror attack.
The young victim was treated by Magen David Adom paramedics at the scene and then transferred to the Hadassah Medical Center. He remains in moderate condition.
The police arrived at the scene of the attack in Jerusalem’s A-Tur neighbourhood, but the attacker had already fled the scene and is still on the run. The police have officially launched a search in the area.
Since October, 35 Israelis and four foreign nationals have been killed in a wave of stabbing, shooting, and car-ramming attacks by Palestinians.
The IDF have also announced that at least 214 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli security forces in the same period, two-thirds of them while carrying out attacks against Israelis and the rest as a result of clashes with troops, mostly in the West Bank.
