A cartoon published this week in PA daily newspaper Al-Hayat Al-Jadida (pictured) states that the rock is the “best friend ever” of Palestinians.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah movement also encourages rock-throwing on social media, with a recent Facebook post depicting a masked Palestinian with a slingshot throwing a rock.
The text that accompanied the post said: “The intifada continues #the_rage_of_Jerusalem”.
Over the past month, there have been 58 stabbing attacks, 5 shootings and 7 car rammings in Israel and the West Bank. 11 Israelis have been killed and over 145 injured.
At least 59 Palestinians have died, of which 36 are confirmed to have been killed during or after committing an act of terror. A number of Palestinians have been killed in violent clashes with Israeli security forces in the West Bank and Gaza, after stone throwing and firebomb attacks.
The recent wave of violence has been characterised by seemingly random acts of terror. Palestinian terrorists are glorified as “Martyrs” if they die while attacking Israelis, with PA streets named after attackers and monetary grants given to their families.
