Paul Davies was elected as the new Welsh Conservative Assembly group leader on Thursday with 68.1% of the vote, beating his rival, Suzy Davies who won 31.9% of the vote.
The Preseli Pembrokeshire AM had been interim leader of the Conservative Assembly group leader after Andrew RT Davies stepped down on the 27th of June. In a public address Paul Davies said: “To the members from right across Wales who put their trust in me – thank you – I will not let you down”.
Mr Davies also said that leading the Welsh Conservative in the Assembly was an “absolute privilege,” however he did warn that it was “now time for us to raise our game,” as he hopes to end Welsh Labour’s dominance of Welsh politics and in the Welsh Assembly since its creation in 1997.
Prime Minister Theresa May congratulated Mr Davies and urged the Welsh Conservatives to “hold Labour’s failing Welsh Government to account”.
Conservative friends of Israel would like to congratulate Paul Davies on his victory and wish him the best of luck for the future. Well done Paul!

Roedd y AC i Breseli a Sir Benfro wedi bod yn arweinydd dros dro i’r Ceidwadwyr Cymreig yn y Cynulliad ar ôl i Andrew RT Davies ymddiswyddo ar y 27fed o Fehefin. Yn dilyn ei fuddugoliaeth, dywedodd Paul: “I aelodau hyd a lled Cymru sydd wedi rhoi eu ffydd ynof – diolch – wna i ddim eich siomi”.
Yn ogystal, dywedodd Mr Davies ei bod hi’n “fraint ac anrhydedd” arwain y Ceidwadwyr Cymreig yn y Senedd. Ond rhybuddiodd ei bod hi “yn amser codi ein gêm,” os yw’r Ceidwadwy Cymreig am ddisodli’r blaid Lafur yng Nghymru ac yn y Cynulliad ers iddo gael ei ffurfio yn 1997.
Cynigodd y Prif Weinidog ei llongyfarchiadau i Mr Davies gan annog y Ceidwadwyr Cymreig i “ddal Llywodraeth Gymreig Llafur yn atebol am eu methiannau”.
Hoffai Ffrindiau Ceidwadol Israel gynnig eu llongyfarchiadau i Paul Davies ar ei fuddugoliaeth a dymuno’n dda iddo at y dyfodol. Da iawn Paul!
