Yesterday during Prime Minister’s Questions, MP for Halesowen and Rowley Regis, James Morris asked Theresa May for reassurance that the UK along with its allies will do “all that we can necessary” to combat the increasingly prominent threat of Iran not just with its nuclear capabilities, but also from its presence in cyberspace.
The Prime Minister responded confirming his right to raise concerns about Iran’s worrying actions in the region, and pledged to continue to work with our international partners to find diplomatic solutions to reduce tensions. She also mentioned the need for the UK to act in cyberspace, highlighting the role the national offensive cyber programme played in supporting NATO operations last year, and the need to have effective cyber capabilities that can be deployed across the vast number of international threats.
Later on in the Commons, the Prime Minister commented again on the need to de-escalate tensions in the Gulf. Claiming that the need to engage with Iran and all other necessary sides is imperative to find a solution to avoid continued escalation. Coupled also with reaffirmation that the UK, alongside its JCPOA partners will continue to work, to ensure the Iran nuclear deal remains intact, believing that Iran’s most recent breach is highly threatening. Together with the other signatories of the deal, they urge Iran to stop drifting away from the agreement, and to “return to compliance”.
