A rocket that was launched from Gaza landed in southern Israel on Wednesday morning, with no casualties or damage reported.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.
In response to the rocket attack, Israel’s Air Force conducted a targeted strike on a Hamas weapons factory in the Gaza Strip early morning on Thursday.
The IDF holds Hamas, as de facto rulers of Gaza, responsible for all activity emanating from the Strip.
The military noted that eight rockets had been fired from Gaza since the beginning of the month. Spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner said the army would “not tolerate any attempt to undermine the security of Southern Israel. The Hamas terror organization is responsible for today’s attack against Israel”.
Salafi Jihadist groups have claimed responsibility for most of the sporadic rocket strikes on Israel from the coastal territory since the end of the 50-day Gaza conflict Operation Protective Edge last year.
