A stabbing attack on Monday afternoon in Israel’s northern city of Afula left an 18-year old Israeli woman seriously wounded.
The high school student, named as Shuva Malka, was walking to a matriculation examination in citizenship when she was stabbed numerous times by a Palestinian who fled the scene. The victim collapsed outside a local coffee shop.
She was taken to the nearby HaEmek Medical Centre by the Magen David Adom ambulance service with several severe stab wounds in her upper body.
Police arrested her suspected attacker after a brief manhunt and sustained injuries to his lower body after being shot in the leg. The suspect was identified by police as a Palestinian man in his 20s from the northern West Bank city of Jenin. The attacker was reportedly in Israel without a permit.
On Tuesday, Israel’s Shin Bet security service declared the stabbing to be a terror attack.
