On Monday morning a crane collapsed on a four storey underground car park in the Ramat Hachayal district of Tel Aviv.
Two deaths have been reported, along with 23 casualties. Five people have been reported missing with the possibility that they are trapped under rubble. Rescue teams, fire fighters and reservists were called in.
A police spokesperson warned that “there’s a danger of additional collapse of both the building and the surrounding areas because of the pit that was created by the collapse”.
Early indicators suggested that the collapse was caused by an engineering failure.
A crane and a sand suctioning truck have been brought in, in order to remove an estimated 250 tonnes of rubble.
