Minister of Science Sam Gyimah MP, and Israel’s Minister of Science and Technology Ofir Akunis MK, on Thursday signed a Joint Declaration of Intent in London to increase cooperation between the UK and Israel.
The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy announced that the two Ministers “signed the Joint Declaration of Intent on cooperation in the field of science, building on the research and innovation strengths of both nations”.
Science Minister Sam Gyimah MP, said that “Israel is one of the technological powerhouses of the world”, adding that he had an “excellent meeting with the Israeli Science Minister Ofir Akunis about opportunities for UK businesses and how our two countries can shape the future with science and innovation”.
On Thursday, International Trade Minister Rt. Hon. Greg Hand MP, announced that he had a “very warm and useful meeting” with Ambassador of Israel, H.E. Mark Regev, to talk Trade and ensuring continuity in excellent UK-Israel trade relations, as we leave the EU”. Mr Hands added that the “UK is Israel’s second largest trade partner”.
Over the last two decades, Israel has become renowned for its high-tech capability, particularly in telecommunications, cyber security, information technology, bio-medical equipment and environmental sciences. Israel is also a world-leader in the field of medical research.
In 2011, the UK-Israel Tech Hub was launched by the British Embassy in Israel and is the first of its kind to promote partnerships in technology and innovation between the two countries.
