On Wednesday night at the Community Security Trust (CST) annual dinner, Home Secretary Rt. Hon. Sajid Javid MP announced plans to increase the Government’s commitment to the security for Jews in the UK to £14 million annually.
In part due to the record number of antisemitic incidents reported in 2018, the Home Secretary pledged to give an extra £600,000 for security to the community. Currently the Jewish community receive £13.4 million.
Distributed by the CST, the money goes towards equipment and staffing costs to protect Jewish buildings and events, including schools and communal centres.
Mr Javid said: “‘Our Jewish friends deserve better… and so do every single human targeted for who they are and what they believe in”. He added: “There are the creeping tentacles of hate which seem to be taking a stronghold of our society… I know how it feels to be on the receiving end of hate”.
Communities Secretary Rt. Hon. James Brokenshire MP was also in attendance, as well as CFI Parliamentary Chairman (Lords) Rt. Hon. Lord Pickles.
