CFI hosted a webinar this week with renowned Israeli political scientist Professor Reuven Hazan ahead of the Israeli election on Tuesday, as voters head to the polls for the fourth time in two years.
Over 20 Conservative parliamentarians joined the webinar, which was chaired by CFI Parliamentary Chairman (Commons) Rt. Hon. Stephen Crabb MP.
Among those in attendance were CFI Honorary President Lord Polak CBE, CFI Vice Chairman Andrew Percy MP, and CFI Officers Peter Gibson MP and Damien Moore MP.
The Hebrew University Professor explained how Israel’s proportional representation electoral system works and gave parliamentarians an overview of the previous three elections.
Professor Hazan explained that a party needs to win 61 seats in the Israeli Knesset (out of 120) to secure a majority. He said that recent polling indicates that there is a 50:50 chance of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu forming a coalition after the election on 23rd March.
