CFI Parliamentary Chairman (Lords) Rt. Hon. The Lord Pickles this week attended the Israeli Foreign Ministry’s seventh Forum for Combating Antisemitism.

Lord Pickles, who is the UK Special Envoy for Post-Holocaust issues, spoke about his involvement in the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), stating “I was very proud to be at the IHRA Plenary in May 2016 to witness the adoption of our Definition of Antisemitism. It was an important moment for IHRA and an even more important moment in the battle against prejudice and bigotry”.

He added that the UK is a “success story” as far as adoption goes, with two-thirds of local authorities, 649 MPs out 650 MPs, our Crown Prosecution Services, the police service, and an increasing number of universities adopting it.

Lord Pickles underlined that “adoption is just the first step; we now need to focus on how the working definition of Antisemitism is being applied”.

Bury South MP Christian Wakeford also addressed the Forum. Mr Wakeford has been consistently outspoken on Antisemitism, and his constituency is home to one of the largest Jewish communities in the country. The Forum, which took place in Israel, involves two full days of conversation with experts and leaders bringing the threat of Antisemitism to the international stage.
