Palestinian President gives Order of Merit to violence-inciting cartoonist

PA CartoonBaha Al-Bukhari, a cartoonist who frequently glorifies violence and rock throwing at Israelis, has been awarded with the Palestine Order of Merit for Culture, Sciences and Arts by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

In his cartoons for the Palestinian daily newspaper Al-Ayyam, Al-Bukhari reinforces the Palestinian Authority’s inflammatory false allegations that Israel is attempting to change the status quo of Temple Mount in Jerusalem and erase Arab and Muslim traces from its holy sites.

The cartoon shown above depicts a Palestinian family armed with rocks, prepared to attack Israelis. The text above the cartoon states “The rocks of 2015!!” and on the man’s arm: “Allah is with you, Abu Al-Abed” (name of cartoon character).

Other cartoons by Al-Bukhari call for more rock-throwing, instructing Palestinians to “advance, advance” while showing a Palestinian throwing a rock with a Palestinian flag in the background (published 9 October 2015 in Al-Ayyam).

Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, an official daily newspaper of the PA, reported that “the President [Abbas] awarded the Order of Merit for Culture, Sciences and Arts to the creator and artist Al-Bukhari in recognition of his creative path in plastic arts and cartoons, and out of recognition of his life full of giving, actions, struggle, and beauty, in a way that fits Palestine and its resolute and full culture”.
