President Joe Biden’s administration believes Iran’s nuclear programme is already too advanced to achieve the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action’s (JCPOA) key condition of keeping Tehran one year away from a breakout to a nuclear bomb, The Wall Street Journal reports.

The US assesses that the time Iran would need to build a bomb if it decides to do so is now much less, the report says. This assessment has been shared by various Israeli officials who have said they believe Iran would need only a few short months at this point.

Late last year, US officials concluded that Iran’s nuclear programme had advanced too far to recreate 12-month breakout period of the 2015 nuclear agreement.

Talks between Iran and world powers to revive the nuclear agreement are currently underway in Vienna. Foreign Secretary Rt. Hon. Liz Truss MP underlined in November last year that “all options are on the table” to prevent Iran from gaining a nuclear weapon.
